Gladskin of The Netherlands has won the prestigious Beauty Astir Award for Best Beauty Discovery of 2013.

The skincare line includes products formulated for a specific skin issue, and the brand’s white airless pump bottles (shown) are color-coded by condition.

The independent Beauty Astir Awards have been presented by the Dutch beauty press for the past 29 years.

Winners are chosen by a panel of 38 expert judges. The judges’ panel reported:

“Gladskin has discovered that skin problems such as eczema, acne and rosacea can be caused by a particular bacteria, and they have found a way to eliminate only these, without killing the healthy skin flora that is naturally present.”

Micreos, a Dutch biotech company that created Gladskin’s formulations, specializes in the development of products against unwanted bacteria based on its phage technology. The company’s Human Health division collaborates with many top institutes, such as the Swiss Federal Technology Institute in Zurich and Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam.

Mark Offerhaus, CEO, Micreos commented:

“We’re very pleased with this recognition…people with acne, eczema , rosacea and skin irritation now have an extra tool to calm their skin….Thanks to our completely new approach, the use of antibiotics can often be avoided.”

Offerhaus added, “More products will be introduced in the course of 2014. ”
